Who is Wild Rose?

E-mail Print PDF
Wild Rose Congregational Church is affiliated with the United Churce of Christ.  We are an Open and Affirming community concerned about eco-justice.  We actively support organizations that reflect our beliefs: we walk in the AIDS walk; we pound nails for Habitat for Humanity; we pull noxious weeds for the Audobun Society; we walk for Housing Justice!; participe Earth Day activities; buy and sell fair trade coffee; and conduct an electronic waste recycling effort each spring. We are generous with contributions to many causes.

We are celebrational people, taking great pleasure in events such as birthdays, holidays, Earth Day worship, Pentecost, the annual celebration of rivers raft trip, the Mrs. Bevin's Blue Grass Band music party, the blessing of the backpacks each year when our kids return to school, the pet blessing, the delightful dramas enacted by our children and our adults, and the many celebrations of the life of our community. Our many musicians, amateur and professional, add greatly to our celebrations.

We are centered in our eternal compass, Jesus of Nazareth.  We walk with each other in spiritual formation through offerings of Centering Prayer, Spirituality Group, the Spirituality and Healing course, mindfulness, and our meditative Tenebrae service.

We are connected to the larger church and to each other in many ways. We have been active in the Metro Denver Association through meetings, ecclesiastical councils and ordinations. We attended the Rocky Mountain Conference. I have been trained as a member of the sexual misconduct response team. Yet I sense that the strongest connections lie between our very own hearts as we bear each others’ burdens with the losses and conflicts of life on one hand, and life’s joys on the other.

Open and Affirming Statement

We believe our task as a church is to live out the inclusive love of God.

We acknowledge that the Church has often judged and excluded from the community of faith gay, lesbian, and bisexual persons, or has been complicit by its silence.

In our covenant to be responsible to God and to one another, we invite and welcome all persons, without regard to sexual orientation, to join us in the full life and ministry of this church, including membership, leadership, and employment.

We affirm all families – nuclear, blended, extended, single parent, and same sex – as they strive to function within the principles of love and justice.  To that end, we recognize and celebrate holy unions, the blessing of committed relationships.

We believe that discrimination is incompatible with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
